NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Coca-Cola Co. reported slightly improved earnings excluding special items Tuesday, but it saw net income fall in the period.
The world's largest soft drink maker earned 47 cents a share, excluding one-time charges and gains mostly related to tax issues. Including those items it earned $1.0 billion, or 42 cents a share, down from $1.1 billion, or 46 cents a share a year earlier.
Analysts surveyed by earnings tracker First Call were forecasting the company to earn 43 cents a share, but it was not immediately clear which reported result compares to that consensus estimate.
Coca-Cola (Research) also announced plans to repurchase $2 billion shares of stock during 2005.
