SAN JOSE, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Cisco Systems Inc.'s (CSCO) second-quarter net income rose 94% from the year-ago period, when the company recorded a sizable stock-based compensation charge.
For the second quarter, Cisco earned $1.4 billion, or 21 cents a share, up from $724 million, or 10 cents a share, a year earlier.
Excluding items, the company earned $1.5 billion, or 22 cents a share, matching a Thomson First Call projection based on a survey of 37 analysts.
Comparative year-earlier earnings were $1.3 billion, or 18 cents a share, including a charge of $567 million, or 8 cents a share, for stock compensation.
Sales for the quarter ended January rose 12% to $6.06 billion from $5.4 billion a year ago. First Call projected sales of $6.3 billion.
