New York, May 27th: The latest rally in USD/CHF toward 1.2380 has
built negative divergence for momentum studies on the short-term
charts and may signal the Dollar rally is set to stall. Swiss economic
data may support the CHF as well. The KoF barometer fell
0.02 points to 0.53 in May after April's reading was revised higher to
0.55 (from 0.52). The March reading was also revised higher to 0.53
from 0.44. The SNB is still seen on hold at the June meeting, but
could raise rates in H2. The KoF lowered its 2005 GDP forecast to 1.6%
from 1.8%. Swiss houses are starting to call for a bottoming in the
Swiss economic weakness, but the progress is very
slow. The Franc has been aided by safe-haven flows with the French EU
vote looking negative. That could have stalled the USD/CHF rally above
1.2400. Bids now are at 1.2300/10, stops below 1.2290 are eyed. The
rising risk of a top is getting stronger and a fall back below 1.2300
would open a slide to at least the mid-1.21 handles before a bounce.

EUR/USD made another

EUR/USD made another attempt to overcome support in the 1.2490/1.2500
area but was rebuffed once again as options stuck at the latter level
continue to be defended. Asian offers were spotted on the last short-
covering rally in the 1.2545 region. Further stops have gathered above
that level from about 1.2550, dealers report. Gloom over the impending
defeat of the EU constitution this weekend hangs over the EUR. At the
same time, the US economy continues to grow about three times faster
than Europe. Not a good backdrop for EUR/USD

eur/usd outlook

A modest profit on Thursday"s long trade overnight after the pairing
stalled at 1.2590. Daily studies are still badly oversold and trying
to manufacture a reversal, but the primary trend remains down. Key
support is at 1.2490-500. Failure to break much below 1.2500 Thursday
was bullish. Short-term studies are back in neutral territory.

The European President Luxembourg Claude Juncker said "The ratification

process must be pursued in other countries" and the treaty is not dead.

The Dutch are likely to vote no on Wednesday and the British Foreign

Secretary Jack Straw said that the no vote in France should lead to a period

of reflection and "This raises profound questions for us all about the

direction of Europe". This is certainly a period of turmoil in Europe and

this will weigh on the EUR in coming sessions.
