The Bush administration has selected Peter McPherson to head U.S. efforts to rebuild Iraq's economy, according to press reports. McPherson will report to Treasury Secretary John Snow and Gen. Jay Garner, who is leading the military's efforts in Iraq. McPherson, now president of Michigan State University, was deputy Treasury secretary from 1987 to 1989 and was administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development from 1981 to 1987. McPherson also worked in the White House in the Ford administration under Dick Cheney. Following his government service, he was a vice president at Bank of America.
