In July 2002, Berkshire, which is controlled by billionaire investor Warren Buffett, and two well-known money managers at Longleaf Partners and Legg Mason Inc. (LM: Research, Estimates) invested $500 million in Level 3, which is based in Broomfield, Colo.
In May Berkshire disclosed in a regulatory filing that it held 879,000 Level 3 shares.
The filing also showed that as of June 30, Berkshire held 1.4 million shares of Duke Energy Corp. (DUK: Research, Estimates), 8 million shares of First Data Corp. (FDC: Research, Estimates), 16.6 million of HCA Inc. (HCA: Research, Estimates) and 5 million shares of Iron Mountain Inc. (IRM: Research, Estimates)
