Telecom Italia Selects Digital Lightwave's OTN Technology
CLEARWATER, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2004--Digital Lightwave(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:DIGL), a leading provider of innovative optical networking products and technology, today announced Telecom Italia has selected the Digital Lightwave Network Information Computer(R) (NIC(R)) for their Optical Transport Network (OTN) deployment and testing. This announcement marks the first major international carrier that has standardized on Digital Lightwave's OTN solution. The NIC Plus was selected from among several competitors to support the implementation of a countrywide deployment in Italy.
Digital Lightwave products are sold and serviced in Italy by DELO Instruments, with offices in Milan, Rome, Turin, Naples, Bologna, Padova, and Palermo (www.delo.it).
"Digital Lightwave's responsiveness to customer desires and needs has always set them apart from other test equipment vendors," said Claudio Baldi, CEO of Delo Instruments. "We are proud to represent this company and we are pleased that Telecom Italia has chosen the Digital Lightwave NIC Plus."
OTN is defined by ITU-T in recommendation G.709. The purpose of OTN is to integrate legacy SONET/SDH and other protocols into an all-optical network, providing Operations, Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P) functionality as well as the added benefit of Forward Error Correction (FEC).
"This has been a team effort at Digital Lightwave involving R&D, the management team, our technical support group and our valued partner, DELO," said Michael Riddick, Vice President of Sales. "We are happy with this development and are poised to expand into additional European markets."
Digital Lightwave's portable NICs are software-based, modular products that combine a multitude of test functions in a single integrated solution, including OTN, SONET/SDH, T-carrier/PDH, ATM and jitter. The OTN capabilities are available in the NIC Plus and NIC 10G products and can be ordered as an upgrade to existing customer products.
