Dow component falls short of the Street's Q3 (Sept) EPS number by a penny, but beats the downwardly revised revenues consensus by 2%; Company then guides Q4 (Dec) revenues (at $8.6-9.2 bln) to the low-end of estimates and puts gross margins at ~56% (Briefing.com consensus of 58%); Also comments that Q4 'is experiencing lower than typical season patterns;' INTC trades up, though, as (1) inventories declined to 77 from 90.8 days (2) there was initial confusion over the actual Q3 EPS result, and (3) traders believe most of the bad news is already priced in; Chip makers AMAT, NVLS, & KLAC have advanced tonight, as has rival AMD

Internet leader turns in Q3 (Sept) EPS of $0.09 (consensus of $0.09) on top of sales that surged 84% to $655.4 mln; Company then issues Q4 (Dec) and FY04 revenues ranges that contain the Reuters Estimates consensus; On its call, management was fairly upbeat, noting that paying relationships increased in the quarter, due to access bundled with content; GOOG has received a healthy boost from YHOO tonight

Analog chip maker delivers a 50% increase in Q1 (Sept) EPS to $0.33 (consensus of $0.32) and a 45% rise in revenues to $253 mln (consensus of $252.1 mln); Gross margins also expanded over 700 basis points on a year/year basis, to 78.3%; Management's guidance for Q2 (Dec) revenues is slightly cautious ('flat to slightly down sequentially') as compared to the consensus of $260.3 mln; however, the company adds that 'cancellations are still minimal.. lead times have remained unchanged;' Competitor NSM has moved 2% higher

Starbucks (SBUX) 47.70 -0.34 (-0.7%)
Coffee giant announces that its CEO and President, Orin Smith, will retire March of next year and be replaced by President of North America, Jim Donald - who will assume the title 'CEO designate' now; Company also reaffirms its FY04 (Sept) EPS outlook of $0.94-0.95 (consensus of $0.95); Stock still declines, though, as Smith was CEO during a time (14 years) that EPS soared 250% annually; Traders are also taking profits as SBUX set a new 52-week high last Friday
