Biotech giant gets FDA approval for Kepivance as a treatment for mouth sores in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy; The indication is fairly narrow - for patients with blood cancers undergoing high-dose chemotherapy, with or without radiation, followed by a bone marrow transplant; The actual sales impact is likely to be minimal, but the positive news has still lifted Amgen's stock; Over the past year, investors have been concerned about the size of the pipeline

Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) 41.81 +1.48 (+3.7%)
Specialty retail company delivers a 21% increase in Q3 (Nov) EPS to $0.40 (consensus of $0.39) and an 11% rise in revenues to $1.31 bln (consensus of $1.33 bln); Same store sales grew 3.1%; Company also said it was commencing a $350 mln stock repurchase plan that will be completed over the next year; The stock actually traded 1% lower today following a Lehman Brothers downgrade to Equal Weight from Overweight; The firm said that stores initially slated for Q3 have slipped into Q4

CV Therapeutics (CVTX) 23.72 +1.45 (+6.5%)
Biotech company ceases a large study of its blood pressure drug early due to positive results; The company said it saw 'significant benefit' in the group receiving Perindopril (the studied drug) with Aceon, and decided to stop the trial as it 'would have made it unethical to continue the study;' Results from the ASCOT study are expected to be presented at an upcoming medical conference

Gateway (GTW) 6.20 -0.24 (-3.7%)
Personal computer maker sees Q4 (Dec) revenues of $1.0-1.025 bln (consensus of $1.02 bln) and raises its EPS outlook to $0.03-0.04 (consensus of $0.02); The company also issues its FY05 forecasts: puts EPS at $0.17-0.19 and sales at $4.0-4.25 bln, as compared to the Street's expectation of $0.16 and $4.08 bln; The company's outlook for Q1 (Mar), however, has prompted selling - says it expects a 15% or more seasonal decline in revenues (versus normal seasonality of down 10-15%); Gateway is also selling $250 mln of convertible notes

Schering-Plough (SGP) 20.60 +0.65 (+3.3%)
FDA approves the drug maker's nasal inhaled steroid for the treatment of nasal polyps; This marks the first approval of a nasally inhaled steroid in the US for this condition; SGP has been in an upswing since late Oct, and tonight has set a 52-week high; Enthusiasm about its partnered Vytorin drug (with Merck) have been behind the advance
