Gold futures dropped under $329 an ounce Friday to trade nearly $7 below week-earlier levels as the U.S. and its allies gained ground in the war against Iraq.
The Philadelphia Gold & Silver Index ($XAU: news, chart, profile) declined 2 percent to 63.34 and the CBOE Gold Index ($GOX: news, chart, profile) traded at 51.88, down 2.8 percent.
The Amex Gold Bugs Index (HUI: news, chart, profile) also fell, easing by 2.2 percent to 116.54.
Among index components, shares of Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM: news, chart, profile) slipped 29 cents to $11.48, Anglogold (AU: news, chart, profile) gave back 92 cents to $28.27, Newmont Mining (NEM: news, chart, profile) fell 27 cents to $24.72, and Placer Dome Gold (PDG: news, chart, profile) traded at $8:90, down 25 cents on the session.
Elsewhere, platinum and palladium miner Stillwater Mining (SWC: news, chart, profile) traded at $3.07, up 7 cents from the previous session, while nickel producer Inco Ltd. (N: news, chart, profile) dropped 36 cents to stand at $19.58.
