HELSINKI, April 17 (Reuters) - The world's top handset maker Nokia posted on Thursday a less-than-forecast fall in earnings on as-expected weak sales, but said profits would be hit in the second quarter by its ailing networks unit.
Nokia forecast pro forma diluted earnings per share (EPS) of between 0.13-0.16 euros in the second quarter -- well off from 0.19 euros earned last year -- with group sales seen rising slightly less than 4-12 percent.
The company reported January-March pro forma EPS of 0.18 euros, down from 0.19 euros a year ago and but topping the estimate of 0.16 euros in a Reuters poll. Nokia said in March that it expected EPS within a 0.15-0.17 euro range. ((Reporting by Brett Young; Reuters messaging: [email protected]; tel +358-9-680 50 248; [email protected]))
