Key events in the weak ahead

Esta será uma semana farta em relatórios económicos nos EUA, daqueles que mexem os mercados no intraday. Porém hoje não sai nada de relevante.

Key events in the week ahead

- Up-and-coming do-it-yourself store Lowe's reports results for its fiscal fourth quarter Monday morning. The company has been steadily gaining ground on rival Home Depot, but its shares have suffered as investors wager the booming housing market could stumble. Analysts polled by First Call expect Lowe's earned 33 cents a share against last year's 28 cents.

- Home Depot reports its fiscal fourth-quarter results Tuesday, with analysts expecting earnings per share of 27 cents versus last year's 30 cents.

- Tuesday, the Conference Board posts its Consumer Confidence Index for February. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com expect that, with the stepping up of war fears, the index slipped to 77 from January's 79.

- January existing home sales, due out Tuesday, are expected to have slipped to an annualized 5.78 million from December's 5.86 million. That would still be one of the strongest months on record

- Thursday, January durable goods orders are released. An incredibly volatile report, economists expect orders popped 1 percent following December's 0.2 percent gain. For many investors, the key to this report lies in its guts, where you can find how business spending on new equipment has been progressing.

- January new home sales come out Thursday. Economists expect they slipped to an annualized 1,045,000 following December's 1,082,000.

- The government's second take on fourth-quarter gross domestic product comes out Friday. Economists expect it will be revised up to 1.3 percent from the preliminary report of 0.7 percent.

- Friday, the University of Michigan gives its final reading on consumer sentiment in February. Economist's expect the consumer sentiment index was unchanged from the midmonth sounding at 79.2.

- Friday the February report on manufacturing in the Chicago region comes out. Economists expect the Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index came in at 53 -- still signaling growth in manufacturing activity, but lower than January's 56. The report is seen as a good indicator of how the national report, due out the following Monday, will come in.
