NEW ORDERS for manufactured durable goods in August, down for the first time since April, decreased $1.6 billion or 0.9 percent to $173.3 billion, the Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau reported today.
Shipments
SHIPMENTS of manufactured durable goods in August, down for the first time since April, decreased $5.3 billion or 2.9 percent to $176.3 billion.
Unfilled Orders
UNFILLED ORDERS for manufactured durable goods in August, up six of the past seven months, increased $3.3 billion or 0.7 percent to $489.1 billion.
Inventories
INVENTORIES of manufactured durable goods in August, down thirty of the past thirty-one months, decreased $1.2 billion or 0.4 percent to $263.5 billion.
Capital Goods Industries
Defense
New orders in August increased $2.6 billion or 35.3 percent to $10.1 billion.
Nondefense
New orders in August decreased $1.2 billion or 2.0 percent to $57.0 billion.
