NEW YORK, Nov 19 (Reuters) - The following are New York
midday prices and market updates for precious metals and
copper:
GOLD
COMEX December gold (0#GC:) at 1208 EDT was down $3.90 at
$393.70 an ounce, retreating from a 7-1/2 year high at $400.70
in Asia to a low in open outcry at $394.20. New York dealers
waiting for chance to trade above $400, waiting for euro to
move back up after pulling back from lifetime high overnight at
$1.1977. Monday's options expirations in focus, adding to
volatility. Estimated volume at 1100 EST 30,000 contracts,
including 2,161 switches before first notice day next week.
Spot gold bullion (XAU=) was at $394.70/5.40, up from the close
at $396.50/7.25. The afternoon fix was at $395.15 an ounce.
SILVER
COMEX December silver (0#SI:) down 10.7 cents at $5.26 an
ounce. Trading from $5.41 to $5.25. Volume was 13,000 lots.
Spot silver (XAG=) fetched $5.25/27, off from the close at
$5.34/36 and the fix at $5.32.
PLATINUM GROUP METALS
NYMEX January platinum (0#PL:) down $8.50 at $765.00,
consolidating under Tuesday's contract high. Spot platinum
(XPT=) was at $764/769 an ounce. December palladium (0#PA:) was
$5.45 softer at $198.00 an ounce. Spot palladium (XPD=) was
quoted at $193.00/198.00 an ounce.
COPPER
COMEX December copper (0#HG:) falls 1.10 cents to 92.10
cents a lb by 1151 EST, ranges from 93.15 cents to a 3-week low
at 91.50. Market drops after digesting Tuesday's bullish news
concerning a potential strike at Canada's Highland Copper mine.
Traders say selling from London and COMEX December-into-March
contract rollover primary features. Volume at 1100 EST was
13,000 lots. LME 3-months copper (MCU3) stands $16 weaker at
$2,037 a tonne near the evening close.
