 About Damon Vickers

Fortunately -- for his clients and listeners - Mr. Vickers often stakes out his turf at just the right spot. He was one of the few who called the top of the bull market in March 2000, for example. He predicted the dot com collapse. He warned clients and listeners about Enron. Indeed, Mr. Vickers first made a name for himself on the investing scene as a rising star in the early 1990s, when the media noticed his ability to spot social trends ahead of everyone else and figure out the best way to play them. This knack for understanding trends ahead of the crowd regularly landed Mr. Vickers, his clients, and his listeners in some of the fastest growing companies -- before the major mutual funds caught on and drove up the shares of those companies. "He's one of the most amazing strategists. He brings clarity to the market," says S.K. Aboukrat, a broker in France. "When people all around may be losing their heads, Damon has shown over and over again that courage and clarity prevail. His discipline produces results. He's our captain when seas get rough. If you dream big, he'll make it happen. He's a fortune builder."

Part of Mr. Vickers' strength of vision stems from his insistence on a high standard of professional integrity, a rarity in a Wall Street world where straight shooting is not always a high priority. "Damon is honest, and he gets right to the point. He' s intelligent and enthusiastic," says B. Mastropolo, a New York-based stockbroker. In a sense, Mr. Vickers' integrity and popularity on the airwaves grow out of his belief that it's always essential to remain true to yourself. " "People don't expect you to always be right, but they do expect you to say what you really think," says Mr. Vickers. "Inevitably you have to be authentic. If you are authentic, you can never go wrong." Clients and listeners recognize this for what it is: A refreshing approach in a Wall Street world where rampant conflicts of interest force many strategists and advisors to adopt views which put their customers' needs in the back seat.

His Investment Approach

Mr. Vickers' investment philosophy is simple. Rather than follow trends, it's far better to figure out the next one and take the appropriate positions before everyone else catches on. "It's all about placing capital in the path of social change that drive sales and earnings growth," says Mr. Vickers. In the mid-1990s, for example, Mr. Vickers was one of the first to take the Internet seriously and recognize it as a powerful force for business and social change. That's why he was building profitable positions in Internet and telecom equipment stocks early on. It was the same story with several specialty retail stocks. "Damon is one of the best theme players in the market," says Eton Chambers, a New York-based stockbroker. "He is a very savvy investor. He is an astute market participant. Very dynamic." Just as important, Mr. Vickers believes that once you've identified an investing theme based on a social or business trend, it is crucial stay in control of your emotions while others try to knock you off course in the rough and tumble world of the markets. In the first quarter of 2000, for example, Mr. Vickers chose to stop making appearances on a popular business radio talk show rather than buckle to outraged viewers who phoned in en masse to complain about his call that the bull market was finished. As for his clients' accounts, Mr. Vickers held his ground. We all know how the story ended.

Market pundits may not always agree with money manager and radio talk show personality Damon Vickers, but one thing is clear. They'll always know where he stands. Mr. Vickers has a 15-year track of articulating investment themes with striking clarity and then holding his ground even as the daily barrage of media and market noise forces others to falter with self-doubt.

Vickers in the Media Spotlight

Prescient calls like that - and the courage to stick with them when the going gets rough - explain why Mr. Vickers has been a popular guest alongside investing stars like George Soros on news programs ranging from CNBC and CNNFN, to Japan Public Television and The Today Show. Mr. Vickers has also contributed to articles appearing in The New York Times, Barron's, Investors Business Daily, Equities and The Wall Street Transcript. His appearance in media outlets sparked professional inquiries from the likes of GE Capital, Julian Robertson of the Tiger Fund, and the Frank Russell Company. Mr. Vicker's media rounds in the late 1990s included the popular New York-based WEVD business radio talk show hosted by Bill Bresnnan. It wasn't long before Mr. Bresnann noticed that Mr. Vickers' appearances regularly light up the switchboards with calls. Recognizing Mr. Vickers' potential as a media personality, Mr. Bresnnan took the young money manager under his wing and developed his radio skills. Thanks in part to Mr. Bresnnan, Mr. Vickers now hosts a popular business radio program of his own, The Damon Vickers Show. It's a daily talk show with a near cult-like following heard across the U.S.
