Relativamente ao défice orçamental, num discurso proferido no dia 6 de Novembro. Afirmando que a geração babyboom vai entrar na reforma brevemente e que por isso devia haver mais disciplina fiscal. Mas o Bush neste momento só pensa nas eleições, o défice fica para tratar no segundo mandato. Já uma vez li o conselheiro chefe de economia do Bush afirmar que actualmente o mais importante é criar empregos, não é o défice.
Já houve alguns sinais positivos no emprego, mas ainda assim esta recuperação económica está a ser a menos criadora de empregos face às outras.
"Of course, the deterioration in the fiscal balance has already increased the level of debt relative to GDP, and thus has elevated the starting point from which policymakers will soon have to address the budget implications of the impending retirement of the baby-boom generation.
Recent budget deliberations are not encouraging. The current debate appears to be about how much to cut taxes or how much to increase spending.
