NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Amazon.com Inc. Thursday reported first-quarter profits and sales that beat Wall Street forecasts.
The world's biggest online retailer said it earned $97 million, or 23 cents a share, excluding one-time items, in the quarter, up from $40 million, or 10 cents a share, on the same basis a year earlier.
Analysts had forecast a profit of 19 cents a share on average excluding one-time items, according to First Call.
Sales jumped 41 percent to $1.5 billion versus forecasts of about $1.4 billion.
