WIESBADEN (AFX) - German GDP rose a seasonally and calendar-adjusted 0.5 pct in the second quarter from the first quarter, driven by exports, according to preliminary figures from the Federal Statistics Office
Unadjusted year-on year GDP growth was 2.0 pct, the office said
Economists polled by AFX News had forecast quarter-on-quarter growth of 0.5 pct
German GDP grew 0.4 pct in the first quarter from the fourth quarter of 2003
The statistics office said second-quarter GDP growth was driven almost solely by exports, as domestic activity "almost stagnated". Year-on-year GDP growth was also driven exclusively by export growth, it said The office will publish a detailed second-quarter GDP report on Aug 24.
