Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) 21.19 +1.51 (+7.7%)
After guiding Q4 (Oct) earnings lower Aug 12, Dow component delivers a 11% increase in EPS, to $0.41 (consensus of $0.37) and an 8% rise in revenues, to $21.39 bln (consensus of $21.2 bln); The company reported operating profits in every division, except for software which came close to reaching breakeven; Management guided 1H05 (Mar) EPS to $0.72-0.74 and revenues to $41.8-42.3 bln, as compared to the Street's expectation of $0.73 and $41.1 bln, respectively; Co said it is seeing better traction in its Unix business

LTX Corp (LTXX) 5.94 -0.36 (-5.7%)
After sharply cutting its Q1 (Oct) forecasts Nov 1, supplier of equipment to semiconductors gives a roughly in line report - falling close to analysts' reduced estimates; Company, however, warns for Q2 (Jan), which marks its 4th warning since May; Management was upbeat during its call, saying that it was encouraged by a 'very high degree of new customer activity;' That has not translated into gains in the after hours, where the stock is down on yet another warning; Stock has approached its 50-day moving avg at 5.7 tonight

Network Appliance (NTAP) 27.62 +2.60 (+10.4%)
After issuing upside Q2 (Oct ) guidance on Aug 19, maker of data storage equipment tops the Reuters Estimates consensus EPS estimate by $0.02; On its call, the company cited demand for data protection solutions, its strong windows business, and customer's movement away from direct attach storage; Guided Q3 (Jan) and FY05 (Apr) EPS and revenues to the high-end of analyst estimates; Rival EMC has traded nearly 2% higher on Network Appliance's strong report/guidance tonight

Nordstrom (JWN) 45.81 +1.01 (+2.3%)
After warning for Q3 (Oct) profits on Aug 19, high-end retailer beats the downwardly revised Reuters Estimates EPS consensus by $0.06; The company cited a lowered tax rate, reduced costs, and tighter inventories for the upside; Management then issued better than expected EPS targets for Q4 (Jan) and raised its FY04 ranges; Same store sales and gross margins for both periods are also projected to increase too; Stock has risen 21% since Sept on expectations of a strong holiday season

Sycamore Networks (SCMR) 3.63 -0.22 (-5.7%)
Optical network company narrows its Q4 (Oct) loss to $0.03 per share - in line with the consensus - on revenues that rose 69% to $14.2 mln; The latter, however, actually represents a top-line miss as the consensus estimate stood at $15.7 mln; The company said on its call that it expects its cash burn to be greater in Q1 (Jan); Blamed the weakness in its optical switching business on 'adverse market conditions;' Mgmt would not address any questions about the possible sale of the co, which removed any hope of upside tonight
