The unified deficit for March was $64 billion, slightly larger than CBO’s estimate of $60 billion. Through the first six months of fiscal year 2002, the unified deficit was $134 billion; this is more than five times greater than the $25 billion cumulative deficit in March 2001. The budget numbers continue to point toward a unified deficit for the full fiscal year.
